New Favorite Blog

Blog Reflection
I first saw this blog being discussed on a local TV show I watch on Saturday evenings, and was intrigued, but somehow in the midst of working a lot of overtime and juggling school, it was forgotten about…until today. At first, I searched for some kind of blog related to autos as I am in the auto claims business, but decided to write about something besides work.
It wasn’t hard to find a blog relating to something that interests me. The hard thing was to narrow the choices down to one. After “googling” cooking blogs, the search was at an end as the blog I had seen on TV was at the top of the list. I recognized “The Pioneer Woman” immediately and went to the sight with anticipation of what I would find.
I know this blog is not for everyone, but it is different and is a reminder of the great state where I was born and continue to live.  It has humor, as well as some great recipes for some good old-fashioned home cooked meals, and the author Ree Drummond blogs about her home life on a real working ranch. She also posts lots of photos of the ranch, her kids, the family dog, etc. If anyone is curious to see what life in Oklahoma is like, this blog is worth visiting.
Although most Oklahomans do not live on big cattle ranches, this blog gives readers a taste of what it’s like to live in the wide open spaces, away from the big city lights, and what it’s like living with cattle, horses, and other farm animals on a daily basis.
The colorful photos of an Oklahoma sunset or the photos of her yummy recipes will keep you mesmerized for hours (it did me). This is a blog about so much more than cooking and it even has comments about and photos of the “Marlboro Man,” in chaps. You’ll just have to visit the blog to see for yourself how Oklahomans live, eat, talk, work and play. Here is the link to “The Pioneer Woman” blog http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/.

  1. Thank you for reflecting about the “The Pioneer Woman” blog. I spent an enjoyable hour this afternoon exploring the multitude of things that this blog site has to offer. I enjoyed the site because its focus is on some of my favorite things, food, photography and humor. The recipes offered on the site look fantastic. I will definitely be returning to the blog soon to take advantage of Ree’s “Devil Dogs” recipe. The site also has an entire category dedicated to the art of photography. I’m always trying to improve my photography skills; therefore, I really appreciated the photography tips that were posted today on the blog. The blogs main author, Ree Drummond has a sense of humor that really makes this blog stand out from the rest. Her blog posts are quite hilarious. It’s her humor that will keep me coming back to the site. I also came upon a blog entry on the site that offers up some helpful insight to anyone that blogs. The entry was posted by Ree on September 8, 2010. It’s titled “Ten Important Things I’ve Learned About Blogging” (Drummond). The tips that I took from this specific blog entry will help me be a better blogger in the future. I would recommend reading the blog entry to anyone that wants to improve their blogging.

  2. Peer Review Blog of Sherry Lee
Your blog about “The Pioneer Woman” was very interesting and well written. I like the things you addressed in your paper about the blog. Like Christie Konrad, I love the photographs that the blogger has posted on her site and the humor that comes along with them while giving new recipes to try. As I poke around the blog you suggested, I find it is very user friendly and I can see why you liked it so much. This blog is very fun and enjoyable to read. She almost makes you feel as though she is talking right to go. I agree with you that it would give someone not from Oklahoma the feel for how Oklahoman’s live! I read thought some of her recipes and because she added all the pictures to the recipe, it made me want to attempt to make the same thing. I am not much of a cook, so that is huge for me! Your blog was very enjoyable to read and I really liked to read the blog you suggested. Good job!
